A clear request for quotation helps suppliers assess manufacturability, identify missing information and quote the correct inspection scope.

Start with the part drawing. A 2D drawing should show all critical dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, threads, chamfers and surface requirements. For complex parts, include a 3D model alongside the drawing. Mark critical-to-function dimensions clearly so inspection effort can focus on the features that affect assembly or performance.

Next, describe the application. State where the part is installed, what it supports or contacts, and whether it sees heat, vacuum, plasma, chemicals, abrasive wear or repeated movement. “High temperature” or “corrosion resistant” alone is not enough to evaluate a design. Provide the operating range, process medium, exposure time and thermal-cycle details when known.

Identify the material requirement, if one already exists. Silicon carbide and alumina are common choices for different ceramic applications, but the material grade and manufacturing route influence the final properties and machining options. If the material is flexible, describe the performance requirements and ask the supplier to recommend a suitable grade. If the part must match an existing component, provide its material certificate or test data when available.

Quantity and delivery expectations also affect the quotation. Separate prototype quantity from expected production volume, and indicate whether the order will be one-time or recurring. Include packaging, cleanliness, traceability or documentation requirements that are necessary for receiving and use.

Before approving production, agree on the inspection plan. Typical points include dimensions, flatness, hole position, surface finish, visual defects and material documentation. If the part has a critical mating interface, define how it will be measured and what inspection report is required. For a new component, a first-article review can confirm that the manufactured part matches the drawing before repeat orders.

When replacing a broken or worn component, send photos and explain how it failed. A crack near a mounting hole, wear on a contact face or distortion after thermal cycling can point to different design or process conditions. The replacement may need to preserve the original geometry, or it may benefit from a change to the radius, support span or tolerance scheme.

A practical custom-ceramic RFQ package includes the drawing or sample, material preference, operating conditions, critical dimensions, quantity, inspection requirements and delivery target. The more complete the package, the easier it is to review the design and provide a useful quotation.

Custom ceramic components can include rings, plates, tubes, chucks, support parts and other shapes made to fit a specific machine or process.
